Parneet Kaur missed out on a compound women’s individual medal, while the Indian recurve women’s team stayed on the hunt for a bronze at the World Archery Championships in Gwangju, Korea, on Tuesday.
Even after stunning Great Britain’s World No.2 Ella Gibson 148-146 and compatriot World No.3 V. Jyothi Surekha 149-147 in the pre-quarterfinals and quarterfinals, respectively, Parneet could not earn a podium finish.
On a rainy day, Parneet, a World University Games individual silver medallist, wasted a three-point advantage to suffer a 142-143 defeat to a lesser-known Sofia Paiz of El Salvador in the semifinals. The Indian managed two 9s and an eight against Sofia’s two 9s and a 10 in the end.
Parneet lost 144-145 to Colombian Alejandro Usquiano in a fight for the bronze.
The Indian women’s recurve team, comprising Deepika Kumari, Ankita Bhakat and Gatha Khadake, reached the semifinals before losing 2-6 to Japan. India will meet top-ranked Korea in the bronze medal match.
