The front lawn of the White House has been locked down by the Secret Service, and members of the press were rushed to the briefing room on Tuesday following a security incident, according to several reports.
An unknown object was reportedly thrown over the fence on the North Lawn of the White House, a source close to the situation told The Hill. The Secret Service quickly called a lockdown of the park and White House and closed off Pennsylvania Avenue.
Members of the press standing outside were rushed into the briefing room without any further details. An all-clear order was declared by the Secret Service roughly 30 minutes later, allowing reporters back onto the North Lawn.
The White House did not provide additional details on what triggered the lockdown, which came just days after the one-year anniversary of an assassination attempt on US President Donald Trump at a rally in Pennsylvania.
The assassination attempt, which left Trump with a bloody ear, one firefighter dead, and two men with severe injuries, shook the country that was gearing up for high-stakes presidential elections. The mystery of the incident continues as authorities are yet to figure out why 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks shot Trump.
