The FIDE Women’s World Cup 2025 final between India’s Koneru Humpy and Divya Deshmukh will head into tiebreaks after the two played out a sedate draw in the second classical game on Sunday, in Batumi, Georgia.
The tiebreaks will happen on Monday, starting with two 15+10 rapid games.
Both Humpy and Divya played within the conventional lines in Game 2, opting for safer choices, unlike in the error-prone opener on Saturday.
AS IT HAPPENED – Humpy vs Divya GAME 2
Early in the game on Sunday, the two found the engine-recommended moves regularly to produce an accurate start.
Divya though nudged ahead of her experienced compatriot with some aggressive play, forcing Humpy to concede a huge time advantage.
But, Humpy, playing with white pieces, soon turned the tide as she exerted counter-pressure, giving up a pawn to gain a foothold in the game.
Humpy also declined a queen trade as she hunted for an opening. Divya defended resolutely, before offering a three-fold repetition draw, which Humpy accepted after some consideration.
