India was put in Group H of the BWF World Junior Team Championship, to be held in Guwahati from October 6 to 11, where it will face Hong Kong, Nepal and Ghana.
The host is seeded second in the competition and will be the favourite to go through the next round. The tournament format will see the winner from each group advance to the quarterfinals.
Top seed Thailand are drawn in Group A with Denmark, Slovenia, and Cook Islands. Defending champion Indonesia are placed in Group C with Türkiye, Romania, and the Netherlands, while 14-time champion China will face Japan, Singapore, Brazil, and Bhutan in Group E.
This year’s competition will test BWF’s relay format. Each tie will be best of three sets. One set will consist of five matches – men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles.
The first to nine points will win the match and the set will proceed to the next match. The second match will begin from the score at which the first ended, and play will continue cumulatively until one of the teams reaches 45 points.
For the Indian team, medal winners from the Badminton Asia Junior Championships 2025 will gain direct entry, while the remaining spots will be decided through a selection trial from August 9 to 13.
