Indian paddler Ayhika Mukherjee bowed out of the WTT Contender Buenos Aires on Saturday after losing her women’s singles quarterfinal match against Su Tsz Tung of Hong Kong, China.
The Asian Games medallist lost 1-3 in a match which lasted around 32 minutes. Ayhika took the lead in the fixture after taking the first game 11-7 but Tung clinched three consecutive games 13-11, 11-7, 11-8 to enter the semifinals.
Earlier in her campaign, the Indian (World No. 94) had beaten Brazil’s Bruna Takahashi (World No. 18) in the first round, before easing past Karina Shiray of Brazil in the Round of 16.
Later in the day, Manav Thakkar beat Malta’s Kim Taehyun 3-0 () to enter the men’s singles semifinals. Manav, seeded eighth, will face Japan’s Mizuki Oikawa for a spot in the final.
Other Indians in action include Payas Jain and Ankur Bhattacharjee in the men’s doubles semifinals where they will face Argentina’s Horacio Cifuentes and Santiago Lorenzo.
Harmeet Desai and Yashaswini Ghorpade have a shot at the mixed doubles title when they face Brazil’s Hugo Calderano and Bruna Takahashi in the summit clash.
