Yogi Adityanath became the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh in 2022. Since then, many have noticed big changes in the state. He is often seen with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other leaders, but he rarely speaks about his personal life or family.
On the festival of Raksha Bandhan, it’s a good time to take a closer look at his family, especially his brothers and sisters. Yogi has three sisters and three brothers. While he chose politics, his siblings live simple lives and mostly stay away from the limelight.
Yogi Adityanath’s Sisters
Yogi Adityanath was born in the village of Panchur, located in Pauri Garhwal, Uttarakhand, to Anand Singh and Savitri Devi. He is the second child among four brothers and three sisters. While there’s no public information about two of his sisters, one of them is Shashi Payal, who often interacts with the media and also attends her brother’s political events. Many might assume that the Chief Minister’s sister lives a luxurious life, but that’s not the case. According to reports, Shashi runs a small tea and snacks shop near the Mata Bhuvaneshwari Devi temple in their home town.
Yogi Adityanath’s Brothers
The UP CM’s eldest brother is Manvendra Mohan and he works at a college. After him comes Yogi Adityanath, followed by two younger brothers, Shailendra Mohan and Mahendra Mohan. Shailendra is part of the Indian Army, where he works as a Subedar and is posted at the India-China border. Mahendra, on the other hand, works at a school.
As per Amar Ujala, Shailendra was once asked if he ever gets the chance to meet his politician brother. He replied that he met him once in Delhi after he became the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. He mentioned that their entire family refers to Yogi as Maharaj Ji. He also said that having such a background gives people hope that reaching a big position doesn’t make someone great, and that true greatness comes from doing meaningful work.
While Yogi Adityanath’s siblings have stayed away from politics and lead simple lives, there are many well-known political families in India where siblings are active in the same field. For example, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi are both important faces of the Congress party. In Bihar, brothers Tej Pratap Yadav and Tejashwi Yadav are involved in politics under the RJD party.
Similarly, in Uttar Pradesh, Akhilesh Yadav is a senior Samajwadi Party leader, while his brother Prateek Yadav has kept a distance from politics but is still known in the circle. K Kavitha and KT Rama Rao, both children of Telangana leader K Chandrashekar Rao, are also in politics and hold important positions.
After having a successful political career, a film based on Yogi Adityanath’s life, titled Ajey: The Untold Story of a Yogi, is all set to hit the big screen. The movie aims to show important parts of his journey, from his early days to becoming the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh.
