It wasn’t long ago that Zohran Mamdani won the Democratic mayoral primary in New York. However, less than two weeks after his victory, attacks on his political ideology have already begun.
According to a report by the New York Post, supporters of Vivek Ramaswamy have put up a digital billboard in Times Square urging New Yorkers to flee Mamdani’s “radical socialism” and move to Ohio. The supporting group, Vivek Super PAC—Victors, Not Victims—has reportedly paid a hefty sum of $50,000 for this advertisement promoting Ramaswamy’s candidacy in the Buckeye State. The billboard is expected to remain in Times Square for the entire week.
“Worried About Zohran? Ohio Is Waiting For You!” reads the billboard, which contrasts Mamdani’s progressive reform agenda with Ramaswamy’s conservative stance. It portrays Ramaswamy’s ideology as a symbol of American freedom, in opposition to what it calls Mamdani’s “socialist totalitarianism.”
“We put this billboard up because we couldn’t think of two politicians in the country who represent such wildly different paths for the future of our nation—the Mamdani path of socialist totalitarianism versus the Vivek path of American freedom,” said Andy Surabian, chief strategist for VPAC.
The billboard was also shared on social media by Ramaswamy, who captioned it: “Capitalism defeats socialism. There’s a better way: move to Ohio.”
Interestingly, both Mamdani and Ramaswamy are of Indian descent. Mamdani, the son of Indian filmmaker Mira Nair, has recently gained political prominence, while Ramaswamy has been in the spotlight since Donald Trump’s 2024 presidential race.
Zohran Mamdani could potentially face off against Eric Adams and Andrew Cuomo in the upcoming November election and emerge as New York City’s next mayor. Meanwhile, Vivek Ramaswamy has announced his candidacy for the 2026 Ohio gubernatorial race.
Ramaswamy’s posts criticising Mamdani’s mayoral campaign have been gaining traction online, and the internet seems to be taking an interest in the digital rivalry between these two South Asian-American politicians.
At the same time, Ramaswamy has also condemned racist remarks previously directed at Mamdani and US Second Lady Usha Vance. Responding to a troll post by Nicholas J. Fuentes, Ramaswamy wrote: “It’s a shame to watch the race-obsessed fringe of the right try to outdo the race-obsessed woke left.”

Meanwhile, Mamdani’s team had not responded to the Times Square ad at the time of writing this report.
