India and Russia on Wednesday held the 11th session of the Working Group on Modernisation and Industrial Cooperation in New Delhi, where both sides signed a protocol to deepen cooperation in key sectors such as aluminium, fertilisers, railway transport, and mining technology.
The meeting took place at Vanijya Bhawan under the framework of the India-Russia Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technological and Cultural Cooperation.
The Indian delegation was led by Amardeep Singh Bhatia, Secretary, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), while the Russian side was headed by H.E. Mr. Alexey Gruzdev, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation.
According to a press release from the Press Information Bureau (PIB), the session reviewed the progress made since the 10th meeting and served as a platform to discuss new areas of collaboration. Updates were shared by sub-groups on modernisation, mining, fertilisers, and railway transport, with both sides showing keen interest in expanding industrial ties.
Emerging areas of cooperation discussed included aerospace science and technology, particularly the development of a modern wind tunnel facility and small aircraft piston engines. The two countries also explored joint efforts in carbon fibre technology, additive manufacturing, and 3D printing.
Further discussions covered rare earth and critical minerals extraction, underground coal gasification, and the development of modern industrial infrastructure. Both sides agreed on the importance of technology transfer and capacity building, especially in the mining sector and waste management.
The session concluded with the formal signing of the protocol by the two co-chairs, reaffirming the long-standing strategic partnership between India and Russia and their commitment to deepen economic and industrial cooperation.
Around 80 delegates from both countries took part in the meeting, including senior officials, technical experts, and representatives from various industries.
