Asian Championships: India ensures medals in men’s, women’s doubles
India confirmed medals in both men’s and women’s doubles categories at the 2nd Asian Doubles Squash Championships, in Kuching, Malaysia, on Tuesday.
In a thrilling men’s doubles quarterfinal, Abhay Singh and Velavan Senthilkumar defeated Korea’s Minwoo Lee and Jooyoung Na with a scoreline of 10-11, 11-3, 11-5 in 36 minutes. They will face Hong Kong’s Chi Him Wong and Ming Hong Tang in the semifinals.
In women’s doubles, experienced campaigner Joshana Chinappa partnered with youngster Anahat Singh to dominate the Philippines’ Jemyca Aribado and Yvonne Alyssa Dalida, winning comfortably 11-6, 11-3 in just 12 minutes in the last-eight clash. Joshana-Anahat pair will be up against Hong Kong’s Po Yui Kirstie Wong and Yee Lam Toby Tse for a place in the final.
Abhay-Anahat and Velavan-Joshana duos will compete in the mixed doubles quarterfinals on Wednesday.

Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu, Hockey Association of Odisha, Hockey Haryana and Hockey Punjab progressed to the women’s semifinals of the inaugural Hockey India Masters Cup at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Hockey Stadium in Chennai on Tuesday.
In the men’s category, Hockey Maharashtra and Hockey Chandigarh joined Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu and Hockey Association of Odisha in the semifinals.

Aurionpro International Grandmaster Chess Tournament: Lalit edges Gharibyan on tiebreaks to become champion
It was a passed pawn that did the trick as Lalit Babu beat Levan Pantsulaia with the black pieces and emerged the champion with eight points from nine rounds in the Aurionpro Grandmaster chess tournament at the World Trade Centre in Mumbai on Tuesday.
The 32-year-old Lalit was tied with Mamikon Gharibyan, who also capitalised on a passed pawn to prevail in 95 moves against Neelotpal Das. The tie-break score put Lalit ahead.
The champion won INR four lakh and the runner-up INR three lakh. Deepan Chakkravarthy finished fifth behind Duc Hoa Nguyen and Boris Savchenko, and collected INR 1.25 lakh.
In the under-13 section, Madhesh Kumar won the title outright with eight points, and pocketed INR two lakh. Advik Agrawal finished runner-up and won INR 1.5 lakh.

Asian 6-Red Snooker Championship: Paras Gupta reaches semifinals
India’s Paras Gupta, who outplayed reigning IBSF World 6-Red snooker champion Kamal Chawla earlier in the day, scored a crushing 5-0 win over Sunny Wang to storm into the semifinals of the ACBS Asian 6-Red Snooker Championship in Colombo on Tuesday.
The 29-year-old Agra cueist played the big points well to put it past the Singaporean, who had earlier shocked former champion Muhammad Sajjad of Pakistan 5-0.
In the semifinals, he will face either Habib Sabah (Bahrain) or Ali Al Obaidli (Qatar).
