US President Donald Trump on Thursday (local time) said he would impose 35% tariffs starting August 1 on Canada, as he dispatched his famous tariff letter to Prime Minister Mark Carney.
In the letter posted on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump told Carney that the new duties will shoot up if the latter chooses to retaliate against his latest move.
Trump also said that he would impose blanket tariffs of 15% to 20% on most other trading partners.
The latest tariffs on Canada came in response to Canada’s “retaliation” amid the trade war with the US.
