India’s Animesh Kujur finished fourth in the men’s Under-23 200m event at the Monaco Diamond League on Friday with a timing of 20.55s, while Avinash Sable got a DNF (Did Not Finish) in the men’s 3000m steeplechase.
Australia’s Gout Gout won the event with a timing of 20.10s, followed by Botswana’s Collen Kebinatshipi (20.28s) and South Africa’s Naeem Jack (20.42s) in second and third.
Earlier this month, Kujur — who also holds the National Record for men’s 200m (20.32s) — broke the NR in men’s 100m after clocking 10.18s to win Heat 2 at the Dromia International Sprint & Relays Meeting in Greece, a World Athletics Continental Tour Silver event. He also became the first Indian to go below the 10.20s mark in the event.
He broke the previous NR of 10.20s set by Gurindervir Singh in March earlier this year at the Indian Grand Prix 2025 in Bengaluru.
Later in the day, National Record holder Avinash Sable failed to complete his race in the men’s 3000m steeplechase event. Two-time Olympic champion Soufiane El Bakkali of Morocco took the top honour with a timing of 8:03.18, while Japan’s Ryyji Miura (8:03.43) and Kenya’s Edmund Serem (8:04.00) finished second and third respectively.
This was Sable’s third Diamond League meeting this season. He took part in Xiamen and Shaoxing where he finished 13th (8:22.59s) and eighth (8:23.85s), respectively.
