Kochi Blue Spikers ended its Pro Volleyball League 2025 campaign with solid win over Ahmedabad Defenders at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium in Hyderabad on Tuesday. Erin Varghese won the Player of the Match award as his side prevailed 15-13, 14-16, 17-15, 15-9.
The reverse did little damage for Ahmedabad, which is already through to the semifinals.
Ahmedabad started strong with Battur Batsuuri’s missile attacks before a super serve from Kochi’s Jasjodh Singh bridged the gap between the two teams. Aided by some tremendous defending from Amrinderpal Singh, Kochi took the first set.
Erin’s ferocious serves caught Ahmedabad off-guard in the second set, and the Spikers continued their momentum. Ahmedabad brought S. Nandhagopal and G.S. Akhin on the court, and the new formation reaped rewards. Akhin blocked Kochi’s relentless attacks from the middle zone, and Ahmedabad levelled in the second set.
Kochi won the momentum back courtesy of Jasjodh’s defending and P. Hemanth Aleena’s cross-body spikes. Nicolas Marechal too played a key role on the back court in the third set.
Hemanth continued to put pressure on Ahmedabad’s defence with strong spikes. Libero Alan Ashique’s quickfire defensive moves helped Kochi save important points. Ahmedabad’s unforced errors did not help and it was eventually a faulty serve from Arshak Sinan.
