US President Donald Trump welcomed Russian President Vladimir Putin to Anchorage, Alaska, with a red carpet reception as the much-anticipated summit between the two leaders officially began. The two presidents briefly posed for the media before proceeding to the meeting venue, but not before facing a barrage of pointed questions from reporters.
One journalist directed a sharp question at President Putin, asking when Russia would stop killing civilians in Ukraine. The Russian leader appeared startled and responded by pretending not to hear the question. President Trump glanced at Putin, and the two briefly exchanged words in what seemed to be a light, private conversation.
Moments later, both leaders were seen smiling as Trump placed a hand on Putin’s back, guiding him toward the presidential limousine, nicknamed “The Beast.” The pair then made their way to the main summit venue.

Inside, the summit commenced under the banner “Pursuing Peace.” Seated with their respective envoys, Trump and Putin again posed for the press. Yet once more, Putin faced uncomfortable questions about civilian casualties in Ukraine. The moment was cut short when Trump abruptly ended the photo op, thanking the media. Putin, meanwhile, maintained a bemused expression, appearing surprised by the press’s persistence.

The US President welcomed Russian President Vladimir Putin to Alaska with a red carpet reception, personally accompanying him from the airbase to the summit venue in the presidential vehicle, known as “The Beast.” The two leaders appeared optimistic ahead of their highly anticipated closed-door meeting, which lasted several hours.
Following the talks, Trump and Putin addressed the media in a brief joint press conference. Putin spoke first, followed by Trump, with both leaders describing the discussion as constructive. While the summit did not result in a ceasefire agreement, there were subtle indications of progress, particularly in terms of continued diplomatic engagement.
Notably, the leaders did not take any questions from the press during the conference, despite heightened global interest in the outcome. After delivering their statements, Trump and Putin shook hands and exited the stage without further interaction, leaving many key issues, especially regarding Ukraine, unanswered for now.
