A fire erupted on the top of an administrative building in Kyiv’s Pecherskyi district after Russia launched a fresh wave of attacks on the city, Timar Tkachenko, the head of the military administration of the Ukrainian capital, said on Sunday, Reuters reported.
A thick smoke rose from the main building of the Ukrainian government, the report said.
An infant was among three people killed in Russian overnight strikes in Kyiv. 18 people were also injured in the attack and several buildings were set on fire in the capital city, including the seat of the government, Ukrainian officials said.
The government building caught fire after the attack which began with drones and was followed by missile strikes, Kyiv’s Mayor Vitali Klitschko said.
State emergency officials said that a fire broke out on two of the four stories of a residential building in the district attacked by Russia.
In the western district of Sviatoshynskyi, several floors of a nine-storey building were partially destroyed, Klitschko and emergency officials said.
Drone debris falling from the sky set off fires in a 16-storey building and two nine-storey buildings, the mayor said.
Russia was “deliberately and consciously striking civilian targets”, Timur Tkachenko said.
Dozens of blasts hit the central Ukrainian city of Kremenchuk, knocking out power in some areas, Mayor Vitalii Maletskyi said on Telegram. In the same region, Russian strikes on Kryvyi Rih damaged transport and city infrastructure, according to local military head Oleksandr Vilkul, but no one was hurt.
