Jerome Vinith, the star spiker and Most Valuable Player of the Prime Volleyball League (PVL) Season 3, has a new mission with the Chennai Blitz after his Rs. 22.5 lakh move from the reigning champion, Calicut Heroes.
Vinith, who captained Calicut Heroes to the 2024 PVL title, acknowledged the end of his stay with his former team.
“The chapter of Calicut Heroes is finished, now my new journey is going to start,” he told PTI Videos in an exclusive interaction.
He expressed confidence in turning around the fortunes of Chennai Blitz, a team that has not reached the semifinals in recent seasons.
He said, “If I am in the team, I can assure that Chennai Blitz will not be like what it was in the last few years.”
Vinith also spoke candidly about overcoming the physical and mental toll of injuries, especially his ACL injury. “Injuries will happen for a top-level sportsperson in any sports,” he said.
“I wanted to be a sportsperson to take care of my family. So, I decided the only way to solve all the problems was to play volleyball. I can say that my family situation gave me more strength to beat my injuries,” he added.
As a senior player, Vinith views his role as beyond just playing and said, “I just give confidence and share my experience with everyone. I will try to help them give the best for the team.”
Discussing how he maintains focus in high-pressure situations, Vinith explained, “Normally, I will be aggressive on the court. But inside, I have confidence because I have practised and played many times on the court. Off the court, I have done more. So I hope that will help the team.”
Vinith also reflected on the impact of PVL on Indian volleyball and said, “After the fame started, everything changed. We get attention from social media and new trainers, and so on. We also have the opportunity to play against foreign players. So yeah, it’s good for all the Indian players.”
