Samajwadi Party MP Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday raised questions on the timing of the encounter of three terrorists who carried out the Pahalgam attack, and asked why their killing took place “only yesterday”.
“After all, why did the encounter take place only yesterday?” Akhilesh said in Lok Sabha during a debate on Operation Sindoor.
His remarks came after the Indian Army, CRPF, and Jammu and Kashmir Police launched ‘Operation Mahadev’ and neutralised three terrorists – Suleman Shah, Afghan, and Jibran – in Srinagar on Monday. Their identities were confirmed and announced by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Lok Sabha today.
He detailed how it was ascertained that the slain terrorists were involved in the Pahalgam attack.
“I would like to share details about ‘Operation Mahadev’, which took place yesterday. In this operation, three terrorists, Suleiman, Jibran, and one other, Afghani, were neutralised in a joint operation conducted by the Indian Army, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and the Jammu Police,” Amit Shah said.
“The people who used to supply food to them were detained earlier. Once the bodies of these terrorists were brought to Srinagar, they were identified by those who were kept detained by our agencies,” he added.
He said that ‘Operation Mahadev’ began on May 22, a month after the Pahalgam attack took place. “A security meeting was held that very night, when the Intelligence Bureau (IB) received input about the presence of terrorists in Dachigam,” he said.
“In the operation conducted yesterday, all three terrorists responsible for killing innocent civilians were eliminated. From the attack site, cartridge cases were recovered, and their forensic test had already been conducted in advance. When the terrorists were killed yesterday, their rifles were recovered, and the cartridges found with them were from M9 American rifles. A ballistic comparison of the recovered rifles and shell casings confirmed that these same three weapons were used in the attack on our civilians,” he added.
