Amid the ongoing language row in Maharashtra, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey has launched another scathing attack on Raj Thackeray and Uddhav Thackeray and said that wherever they go, the public will thrash them.
“Raj Thackeray and Uddhav Thackeray are not some royal figures… I am a Member of Parliament; I don’t take the law into my own hands, but wherever they go — in any state — the public will thrash them, peet peet ke maarengi inko,” said Dubey during a podcast with ANI.
His remarks came while he was responding to a question asked about an earlier statement made by Dubey.
A day after MNS workers assaulted a food stall owner in Thane district’s Bhayandar for not speaking Marathi, Dubey had said,”If you are courageous enough and beat those who speak Hindi, then you should beat all those who speak Urdu, Tamil, and Telugu. If you are such a big ‘boss’, come out of Maharashtra, come to Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu – ‘tumko patak patak ke maarenge’… We all respect Marathi and the people of Maharashtra, who fought for India’s independence.”
Maharashtra Language Row
The ongoing language row in Maharashtra has reignited fierce political tensions, with the Thackeray family — both Uddhav Thackeray of Shiv Sena (UBT) and Raj Thackeray of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) — taking strong stances in favour of promoting the Marathi language.
Recently, in Nagpur, the MNS workers created chaos at a bank. Several MNS workers launched a protest against Union Bank of India’s Seminary Hills branch in Nagpur after the bank allegedly refused to process an insurance claim because the FIR submitted was in Marathi.
In another case, an auto-rickshaw driver in Maharashtra’s Palghar was thrashed in public, allegedly by the supporters of Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena (UBT) and his cousin Raj Thackeray’s MNS, over his refusal to speak Marathi.
A food stall owner in Thane district was beaten up allegedly by activists of a regional political party for not speaking in Marathi on Tuesday.
