Paris 2024 are the most followed Olympic Games in history, as per the Annual Report of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) released on Friday.
According to IOC, “Some five billion people, or 84 per cent of the potential global audience, tuned in to watch the action.”
The French capital hosted the Olympics from July 26 to August 11 and the Paralympics from August 28 to September 8.
The IOC also mentioned that 9.5 million tickets were sold for the quadrennial showpiece and 8.5 million fans watched the Olympic and Paralympic Torch Relays. It also said that 7.9 million fans celebrated at sites across France.
The report comes after the approval of the Consolidated Financial Statements by the 144th IOC Session in March this year. Published under the theme of “Games of a New Era”, the report covers Thomas Bach’s final full year as IOC President, ahead of him passing the baton to his successor, Kirsty Coventry.
