In a bone-chilling incident, a 61-year-old woman allegedly killed her son and chopped his body into pieces in Italy, New York Post reported.
The hexagenarian, identified as Lorena Venier, connived with the victim’s wife, Mailyn Castro Monsalvo (30), in carrying out the gruesome murder on July 25. The matter came to light after her daughter-in-law informed the police about the killing.
A nurse by profession, Lorena reportedly admitted to killing her son, Alessandro Venier (35), with the help of Mailyn. Alessandro’s body was recovered hacked to pieces in the basement of the home where he lived Mailyn and their 6-month-old daughter in the town of Gemona del Friuli.
“I took care of Alessandro’s dismemberment myself,” Italian news agency ANSA quoted Lorena as saying during a court appearance.
It is learnt that the mother and daughter-in-law duo had been planning the killing for months after Alessandro had been allegedly physically abused Mailyn.
According to Italian outlet L’Unione Sarda, Lorena claimed “Mailyn had been asking me to kill my son Alessandro for months, ever since the day their daughter was born in January.”
L’Unione Sarda report further quoted Lorena as saying, “Mailyn was violently beaten, insulted and repeatedly threatened with death… My son downplayed her postpartum depression, and when I decided to report it, he punched me in the back.”
The victim had allegedly discussed shifting to Colombia with his family but Lorena was too fearful of what he could do to harm the family, Daily Mail reported.
Citing officials, Daily Mail reported the accused women allegedly handed Alessandro a glass of tranquilizer-spiked lemonade and gave him two shots of insulin from the hospital where Lorena worked to make him unconscious. The victim was still alive even after the heavy dose of insulin, the British outlet reported.
He was then suffocated with a pillow, strangled with shoelaces, and covered in quicklime to conceal the smell of his body, the outlet further stated.
Lorena told the courtroom that Castro was only involved in moving the remains, ANSA reported.
The mother had hoped her son’s disappearance would be overlooked, as the family was preparing to relocate to South America. However, her plan was foiled when Castro came forward with a confession.
According to the outlet, Lorena has been charged with murder and concealing a body, while Castro is under investigation for instigating the crime.
